The tower, located on the top of green, grassy cliff and surrounded by gardens, was 23 m tall
and the lantern was at a height of 90 m with the light visible 40-42 km away.
The construction had been quickly covered with moving sands. In 1960s the sand dunes created
significant obstacles for lighthouse operation and contributed to its closure in 1968. From 14 June
1980 the Museum Vendsyssel had used the machinery room for the exhibition purposes, however,
they had to abandon the building in 2002. In 2004 the lower part of the tower was completely covered
by shifting sands. To avoid its falling into the sea, the lighthouse was moved inland from the cliff’s edge in 2019.
The lighthouse building is 23 meters high, and the light, visible from 40-42 kilometers, was located 90 meters above sea level.
It has been one of the major attractions of North Jutland region.
