In 1962 the spectacular discovery was made close to Bremen - in the river Weser the hull of a cog from around 1380 was found and then salvaged. Thanks to the work of German scientists, archeologists and museum workers, the ship was reconstructed with original components and now is housed in the Deutches Schiffahrtsmuseum in Bremerhaven. That kind of vessel was common in the northern Europe and on the Baltic Sea. It was particularly popular there from the beginning of the XIII to the first half of the XV century. The cog was perfect for transporting goods and she was used mainly for that purpose. Famous Victual Brothers (Vitalienbrüder) sailed cogs when going for plundering and robbery but also to supply the besieged Stockholm by the Danish forces with food in 1390.
