The harbor entry channel in a town of Sassnitz on the east shore of Rügen, the biggest German island,
is protected by a 1.5-kilometer breakwater. In 1903 a light on the platform was placed at the breakwater end.
It was later replaced by a steel, 15-meter octagonal lighthouse. One of the reasons to install light there was
a ferry route from Swedish Trelleborg located 100 kilometers north. We are very grateful to Wasser- und
Schifffahrtsamt Stralsund for the lighthouse’s blueprints and permission to use them for making a model.
