The Crowdy Head Lighthouse was built in 1878 near the entrance of the Manning River.
It was the last of a series of small lighthouses designed by James Barnet, the others being at Fingal Head,
Richmond River, Clarence River and Tacking Point. The lighthouse was made of stone and painted white.
It was originaly manned by one lightkeeper until it became automated in 1928.
