The rotary crane with a wooden structure was built in the city of Stade in 1661.
The mechanism was operated by two great circles powered by human strength.
The wheels were raised by several people rotating the axis which was wound by
a rope that lifted or lowered the load. The crane was destroyed in 1898.
The one standing in the Southwestern part of the fishmarket (fischmarkt)
in Stade was reconstructed in 1977.
